Security Council

Chair: Emmanuel Martínez
Co-chair: Francesco Messina

TOPIC A: Global Governance and the Risks of Nuclear Proliferation: Addressing State Responsibilities in Non-Proliferation Treaties.

TOPIC B: Preventing Escalation in Regional Conflicts: The Impact of Authoritarian Practices on International Stability.

This year, the Security Council will confront two of the most pressing threats to global security. Through informed debate and diplomatic negotiation, delegates will strive to uphold international peace and stability while navigating the complex dynamics of state power and global governance.
As nuclear technology continues to advance, so do the risks associated with its misuse. Delegates will explore the pressing issue of nuclear proliferation, focusing on the delicate balance between a state’s right to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and the international community’s responsibility to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons. The discussion will focus on the role of Non-Proliferation Treaties (NPTs), state compliance, and the enforcement mechanisms needed to address violations and safeguard global security.

Regional conflicts often have far-reaching consequences, particularly when authoritarian regimes employ aggressive practices that destabilize neighboring states and disrupt international peace. This topic invites delegates to examine how authoritarianism fuels regional tensions and consider multilateral responses aimed at preventing the escalation of conflicts. Delegates will be tasked with formulating strategies to address human rights violations, political repression, and the role of international interventions in mitigating these threats.

Dear Delegates,

I am thrilled to welcome you to the first UACMUN and honored to serve as President of the Security Council. My name is Emmanuel Martínez. I’m originally from Los Cabos, but I’ve lived in Cancún for 12 years. Model UN has been a passion of mine for the past eight years, ever since I first encountered it in Junior High School. It has helped me grow personally and opened many doors for me. This will be my 14th Model UN and my third time as chair.

Currently, I’m in my third semester studying Engineering in Information Technologies. While my degree may seem unrelated to Model UN, my passion for international issues has always been a significant part of my life. I love discussing global challenges and thinking about solutions. Outside of academics and MUN, I enjoy traveling, going to concerts, and spending time with friends, and I’ve recently taken up spinning.

In this MUN and any others you participate in, I encourage you to be confident, stand by your country’s position, and respect your fellow delegates. Remember, while this is a simulation, it reflects the way real-world decisions are made that affect us all. The Security Council is one of the most important and serious committees, so take it seriously, and work towards meaningful solutions.

I look forward to meeting all of you and watching the session unfold. My Co-chair and I are here to support you as you strive for success. Best of luck, delegates!
